Children’s Mental Health Week runs throughout this week, recognising the importance of talking about mental health in all settings, from the school to home. This year there is a spotlight on ‘Being Ourselves’; celebrating everything truly unique about us.
Place2Be established Children’s Mental Health Week in 2015 in order to highlight the necessity to recognise when children and young people are struggling with their mental health and general emotional wellbeing.
Everyone endures a vast array of challenges, these can be extremely individual and it is crucial that we allow children to explore the profound impact that these experiences can have.
Being open and honest, but also respecting children’s right to work through these challenges at their own pace, is key to reaching adulthood will an authentic sense of resilience that will best arm them going forward. These principles are fundamental to the work we carry out at Thrive within all settings.
Place2Be have noted that many children and young people have a tough relationship with their self-esteem, with more than 8 in 10 of the pupils they’re working with facing these personal barriers.
Considering this discovery, ‘Being Ourselves’ is leading 2018’s Children’s Mental Health Week. There are plenty of activities and free print-outs to explore with the children and young people in your care. Find out how you can work alongside children this week to discuss the importance of uniqueness, and praise everyone for the qualities that make them stand out.
