We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Forging New Connections Conferences for 2018 and 2019. With two wonderful Key Note speakers, it is set to be another iconic year.
Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk
Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk is a research scientist fascinated by babies’ innate capacity to connect. Since 1993, she has been based at the University of Dundee (Scotland), within the School of Psychology. Her academic career began in the USA, where she completed her PhD at Yale University.
In 2011, Suzanne stepped away from a full-time academic post in order to establish an independent training enterprise. Its aim is to help the public understand all that science has discovered about the importance of emotional connection for human health and happiness. It’s working! Approximately 40,000 people have now attended her speaking events, and she reaches over 50,000 people a week on social media.
In 2014, Suzanne broadened her public reach even further by founding the organization connected baby. She and her team work to help parents and professionals make practical use of the science of connection.
Suzanne’s core aspiration continues to be strengthening awareness of the decisions we take about caring for our children — because those choices are integrally connected to our vision for the kind of society we wish to build.
Jane Evans
After completing a BSc degree in Social Policy at University of Bristol, Jane began to develop her work on early childhood trauma and its effects on brain development, function, behaviour and the ability to learn and be in healthy relationships.
Self-educated, using the latest neuroscience, Jane has studied research on what happens in the earliest moments, days, months and years of life. She promotes this as the time when we begin to relate to others, access good health, learn and develop.
Jane has published several children’s books which take a gentle approach to looking at complex issues, such as getting overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling to process feelings after growing up with emotionally distant adult carers, or living with experiences of domestic violence.
Each book draws upon her knowledge from working with families with complex needs, and her extensive readings and learning about early brain development and the impact of repetitive childhood trauma.

Resilience
We’ll also be screening Resilience (with a 30 minute Q&A session afterwards) at each conference. This widely acclaimed documentary explores the relationship between childhood abuse and neglect and risk of disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death in adulthood. Referred to as ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences), these harmful factors can affect all segments of society. Within Resilience, experts in paediatrics, education, and social welfare explore the ways in which cutting-edge science and therapies can protect children from the potentially fatal outcomes of early traumatic stress.
After the screening, every attendee will be given a link which will entitle you to screen the film in your setting. You will also be given PowerPoint slides to help you to introduce Resilience and explain the links between ACEs and the Thrive Approach. The link will provide you with one full screening. As such, you might like to invite others interested in or working with Thrive from your community to attend, allowing maximum exposure to the ACEs study and it’s implications for children in your care.
