With Ofsted now proposing to look at both the personal development and behaviour of students as separate judgements during inspection, the impact of the Thrive Approach could not be more relevant.
Drawing on established neuroscience and attachment theory, Thrive offers a powerful way of working with children and young people to support their social and emotional development. This helps them to become more resilient and better able to cope with life’s ups and downs, engage with learning and maximise their opportunities.
Underpinning all Thrive practice is the screening, assessment and action-planning tool, Thrive-Online. This provides class action plans for right-time development, drawing on curriculum strategies and teaching suggestions, as well as more detailed individual plans to meet specific needs. It also enables you to measure progress, charting this for individuals and groups.
Craig Prichard is the Headteacher at Penywaun School in South Wales. He uses Thrive-Online to work with every child,
I am currently tracking our children who have had individual Thrive support and comparing their attainment to the rest of the class. So far, we’re seeing that the children who have had Thrive are actually overtaking their peers. I know it is Thrive making the difference as it is the only thing that these children have that is different. When I get data like that, it excites me! This is the proof that Thrive is working.
Other senior leader teams using Thrive have also noticed improved behaviour, increased attainment, happier staff and better relationships with parents.
When Donna Ellison became the Headteacher of Whitnash Primary School in Leamington Spa in 2016, she found a school in chaos. Significant numbers of children held little respect for the school and many parents were angry. After implementing Thrive, “Calm has been restored… parents and staff are proud of their school. Academic results are improving, and children moving up to secondary school are ready to learn.”
Furthermore, Whitnash has not excluded a single pupil in over two years.
